Electrical Safety And Your Wellesley Real Estate

It doesn’t matter where you live in one of the Wellesley condos or Wellesley homes that are available, you should know a little something about keeping safe around electricity. There’s no doubt that you’ll enjoy your Wellesley real estate more when you understand where to find the electrical service panel in your new home and have memorized a few other simple pointers.

    1. Remember that water and electricity don’t mix. Now, while most people know that and would never get an appliance near open water like a bathtub or sink, the old rule bears repeating since you might slip up with all the excitement going on in your new Wellesley home. Remember that radios, hair dryers and other appliances should always be kept a safe distance from water.
    2. You should never yank a plug from the wall by its chord. That puts wear on the plug and could eventually create a fire hazard.
    3. Remember that when you want to do any kind of involved electrical work, you should turn the power off at the service panel to ensure there are no accidents.
    4. Always have a voltage tester of some kind to make sure that the power is in fact off before you start working. Alternatively, you can use a lamp or small appliance.

There’s no doubt that as you move into your new Wellesley home you’ll find something that needs to be changed or repaired. But if it involves electrical work it’s a good idea to be safe and not sorry later on.
