A Gem of a Town in Cape Ann Real Estate

Rockport, MA

Rockport, MA

Rockport, Massachusetts is a small town of under 10,000 people 40 miles north of Boston. The town is part of the Cape Ann peninsula, which during warmer weather often takes a back seat to tourist-infested areas in Massachusetts like Cape Cod. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have just as much, if not more to offer.

If you are looking for the ideal place to retire, the town of Rockport might be the perfect spot. Walt Disney Productions listed Rockport, MA as one of the ten most scenic places in the United States — and it even was used as the primary filming location in Sandra Bullock’s recent movie, The Proposal. The town offers miles of coastline, five different beaches, and is close to several wildlife reservations, all perfect spots for walking, fishing, and relaxing. There is a golf club in town, and many more located all along Cape Ann.

Visiting grandchildren or children will have no problem finding fun things to do in Rockport. First, there are beach activities like swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and kayaking, with sailing lessons even offered. Even if only the boys like fishing, a fishing charter can be a fun way to take an exciting cruise across the Atlantic Coast. If fishing isn’t your thing, there’s always a whale-watching trip. With Cape Ann being known as the “Oldest Art Colony in Massachusetts,” there is no short stock of art galleries in Rockport and in the surrounding areas. Taking the grandkids to a gallery can be a fun, enriching learning experience. If shopping is more up your alley, the whole family can take a walk along Rockport’s own Bearskin Neck, where there are a ton of fun shops and restaurants.

How to Find Cape Cod Real Estate

When you’ve decided that you’re ready to check out Cape Cod real estate, you’re going to find that there’s no one place to look. Just as it is with any other real estate search, when you’re looking for Cape Cod real estate, you’re going to want to think about a number of things.

Ultimately, there’s the part of searching for Cape Cod real estate that’s all about visiting the area and finding the community that’s comfortable for you. Not everyone is going to feel at home in Hyannis and not everyone will want to look into having a home in Brewster; by checking out various communities – particularly during the off season because it will let you see more about what life is really like.

You’ll want to take the time to see inside a few Cape Cod homes because that’s going to help you get a sense of the style of home that you’re interested in. You’ll be able to get a better sense of whether you feel good about having a smaller home or a larger home and how much space you’ll need for your family.

You’re going to want to think about finding the right support along the way – choosing a Cape Cod real estate agent who will be able to answer your questions as they come up, who will be able to keep an eye out for available homes in the areas where you are looking to buy and who can help you connect with all of the right services once you find your home.

Buyers: The Off Season’s a Great Time to Buy on Cape Cod

Ask anyone in the greater Boston area and you’re likely to hear that, while spending time on Cape Cod is fantastic during the summer months, getting there can be challenging. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, traffic backs up for hours for those waiting to get across the Bourne; the best thing about owning Cape Cod real estate is that you won’t have to make your way across the bridges to make it over the the beach (and, if you decide to leave town for the weekend, you’ll be heading against traffic).

Buying Cape Cod real estate during the off-season has a number of benefits. First, the market has slowed down some because there are fewer tourists in the area who are thinking “wouldn’t it be great to live here?” Similarly, becoming a buyer of Cape Cod real estate in the off season helps to lower prices a bit, to give you better access to open houses, more attention from a real estate agent and the chance to get settled before summer rolls around again.

Keep in mind, Cape Cod is just as beautiful in the off-season; this time of year offers spectacular sunrises and sunsets and all the New England charm that you’d expect to find.
